Siren

The warning siren, which was based at the Hudson Fire Hall, was used for both weather alerts and fire department volunteer notification.  For the immediate past year problems had been noticed with that siren.  However, the siren recently was discovered to be non-functional and had shorted out, destroying it.

The type siren, Federal Signal Corporation STH10 with pole mount and the necessary controller, for which the grant was requested, will provide additional capability. In addition to the normal wail and steady signals which will advise the residents of Hudson of both natural and man-made disasters, it also has a fast wail which will be used for terrorist, particularly bio-terrorist, threats.

Due to its importance, the Town Council has approved funding the siren.

Gas Analyzer

Having the right equipment can be the difference between an incident and a disaster. That means having 100% reliable hazard evaluation tools that let fire department responders understand the exact nature of a threat - before someone finds out the hard way.  The Homeland Security Commercial Equipment Direct Assistance Program (CEDAP), operated by the DHS Preparedness Directorate, Office of Grants and Training (G&T) has provided the Hudson Volunteer Fire Department with commercially available equipment to prevent, deter, and respond to terrorist attacks, as identified in state homeland security strategies. This competitive program is a direct assistance program, not a grant program, and G&T will provide the equipment and technical assistance, at no cost, directly to them.

MIRAN SapphIRe Portable Gas Analyzer uses infrared spectroscopy to specifically and accurately measure many gases with a single unit. It will measure a wide variety or mixed atmosphere of gases and contains over 120 single gas applications with customization capability.  Without CEDAP assistance, the cost of the gas analyzer kit is approximately $ 24,000.  This equipment is being provided without cost.
