HUDSON PARK BOARD

August 18, 2008

The Park Board met on Monday, August 18, 2008, in the Town Hall.  Those present were:  Anna Platt, Lyle Torrence, Trina Pollock, Kathy Kope, Lindsay Meyers, Robin Hayes, Brian Hayes, Bill Ebert, Larry Johnson, Gene Hamm, and Tatsy Hayes.

The meeting was called to order at 6:05 pm. by President Lyle Torrence. The minutes of the previous meeting were read. Brian Hayes motioned to approve the minutes, seconded by Trina Pollock.

The first order of business discussed was the controversary concerning the mowing of Fourth Street by Gene Hamm.  Trees planted in the right of way were accidentally damaged.  A Rose of Sharon on Third Street on the town right of way has also been cut down.  President Torrence asked that this be further investigated.

The Hardy Park new play equipment was discussed.  The committee was informed of some dissatisfaction over the wall.  Most of the work was done by volunteers.  Due to the settling of the ground, it appears to be crooked.  Those that helped expressed feelings that they had given time and energy to complete the job and were hurt by the criticism.  President Torrence said that if dissention among the members was to continue then committee members should leave the committee.

Brian Hayes told the committee that the bulbs in the pavilion have been shot out and this is a potential danger to the children.  He asked Bill Ebert to check on the purchase of a tool to change the bulbs and domes to cover the bulbs to alleviate this potential problem.  It was also mention that if the committee sees children abusing the park, they should take it upon themselves to talk to the offenders.

Larry Johnson was asked about the Ball Park.  The steps have been completed and there is still a need to improve the backdrops.  It was suggested that a grant be written for assistance.  Grants are available through the Steuben County Community Foundation and possibly through the Ashley-Hudson Chamber.  Anna Platt was asked to inquire from Pepsi for a scoreboard.  Inquiries was made concerning the progress of the “Quiet Park” There has been no additional information concerning the Eagle Scout plans for a Veteran Memorial.  Brian Hayes said that he would talk to Sally Moore concerning the possibility of an entrance through her property for access to Schenkle Drive.

Plans were discussed for a Halloween Party for the children.  Bill Ebert told the committee that the Fire Department has been considering this as well and asked that some committee members come to their fire meeting on September 9th at 5:00pm. Some ideas that were discussed were:  Blocking Main Street for a dance, bobbing for apples, a hayride through town going through Circle Cemetery, and games.  A committee was appointed to help in the planning. Those members are Lindsay Meyers, Trina Pollock, Robin Hayes, and Tatsy Hayes.

President Torrence thanked the committee for their participation and again reiterated that the interests of the children of Hudson were his main goal for this committee as well as the town.  The next park committee was scheduled for September 9th at 6:00 in the Town Hall.

Trina Pollock moved, seconded by Lindsay Meyers to adjourn the meeting.  Motion carried.

Respectfully submitted,
